KNICKERBOCKER MANSION NEWS APRIL, 2008

IN MEMORY...

On January 20, 2008 Stanley Hemstreet, President of the Knickerbocker Historical Society since 1988 and patriarch of the Knickerbocker clan in Schaghticoke, died after a short illness. All at the Mansion will miss his ideas, enthusiasm and guidance for Mansion activities. Numerous donations have been given in his memory and will be used to restore and decorate the original dining room and the master bedroom. His spirit will live on as the Mansion's restoration continues.

Mansion Restoration
Every spring when we open the Mansion for the season there is always something new to see and this year is no different.
First you will notice that the concrete block barn/Visitor's Center has new wooden siding. The siding has been donated by Joe and Anne Ferrannini in memory of his grandmother, Margaret Groesbeck Banker Fortin. Meanwhile, the Mansion restoration continues. The front parlor is almost completely done and work is underway in the dining room and master bedroom. Now we are looking ahead to the next big project, rebuilding the fireplaces and chimney system in the west side of the Mansion. Fundraising and grant writing have begun to find money for this project.
