FIRST CHURCH VISIT
Many of us enjoyed a guided tour of First Church in Albany thanks to Stana's
organizing efforts. Thanks also to Dr. Alexander, curator of the Church archives,
for his knowledgeable and insightful tour - and for giving up a Sunday afternoon
to shepard a bunch of Knickerbockers. Founded in 1642 in "Fort Orange", this
Church was attended by Harmen Jansen and probably all his children were baptized
in the original 1656 Block House structure. The present building dates to
1798, but has preserved several important artifacts and many of the records
from the earliest times. I have digitized an
Historical Sketch prepared by The First
Church.
